The Aereospace & Defense Meetings
Torino is the only international business convention for the aerospace
and defense industry organized in Italy. This year, it takes place at
the Oval Lingotto Fiere in Torino, from the 23rd to the 24th of October.
NavSAS
takes part to the convention showing a prototype of GPS-scatterometer.
You can find it at the TORINO PIEMONTE AEROSPACE stand. The prototype is
developed in the framework of a regional/national Italian project,
namely SMAT-F2 (System of Advanced Monitoring of the Territory - Phase
2).
The
SMAT project, coordinated by ALENIA AERMACCHI S.p.A., has the aim to
implement an Advanced Monitoring System of the Territory, based on
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). It will be able, through proper control stations,
to continuously monitor an extended area in order to prevent and
control a wide set of events such as: floods, fires, landslips, traffic,
urban planning, pollution and crops.
The
first phase of the SMAT project (SMAT-F1), already concluded,
investigated the potentiality of light aircrafts to simulate some
operational scenarios in order to obtain preliminary information about
the capabilities of new sensors that require a phase of detailed
characterization. The second phase (SMAT-F2) has the objective of
developing technological issues enabling the SMAT system, with a
short-medium term market view. The final outcome of this second phase
will be a functional demonstration of the system, able to satisfy the
user requirements on different kind of applications.
